Does a doula leave a place for my partner?
A doula never replaces the partner. I am there to enhance both of your experiences. See Partner Support page.
Isn't a doula only for home birth or midwife?
Whether in the hospital or at home, I am continuously with you. Your OB is generally unable to attend you throughout your labor and nurses change shifts.
I know I want medication. Can I use a doula?
I work for you and support whatever your birth plan may be. Pain management techniques such as an epidural, are not used till an active labor pattern has been established. This can take time. I am with you and helping you through early stages of labor.
How about an induction?
I am still supporting you with massage, breathing, relaxation, movement, positioning, etc. I am there supporting and encouraging you through labor and birth.
How much does a doula cost?
Many doulas are self employed business women and are unique in the services they provide. I charge $800.00. Never let money be the issue in having support. I am willing to work with you or help you find someone who can. I believe every woman should have a doula.
Does insurance cover doula services?
Insurance companies are just starting to realize the value of doulas. Women who employ doulas have generally lower medical costs. Some women have been able to be reimbursed or use their flex spending to cover the cost. Ask your individual insurance company.
